Askjules will work with you on your university search and selection campaign and successful independent living away from home whilst at university. Your Advocate will assist you to identify and select your firm university choice and work with the relevant bodies to ensure everything is in place according to your personal requirements and preferences.
You will be supported throughout by your Askjules Advocate who will have sufficient time and flexibility to tailor each stage to your individual needs, situation, aspirations and time-scales.
After an exploratory meeting with your Ask Jules Advocate you will work together to prepare your University Search and Selection Campaign Plan. In this first stage you will work together and establish:
which universities and courses you are considering
what obstacles may lie ahead
how each obstacle will be overcome.
The Stage 1 plan is reviewed at a progress meeting and a Stage 2 plan is produced. Advice, feedback and tactical input will be provided throughout your campaign.
Your Ask Jules Advocate will arrange meetings with Student Support and Accommodation Departments and accompany you to open days at your chosen universities. You will work together with your Askjules Advocate to establish positives and negatives for each university and produce a shortlist choice of universities.
The Stage 2 plan is reviewed at a progress meeting and a Stage 3 plan is produced. Advice, feedback and tactical input will be provided throughout your campaign.
Your Ask Jules Advocate will arrange and accompany you to further meetings and tours at your shortlisted universities including;
Meetings with Student Support and Accommodation Offices
Personalised tours of campus facilities incorporating lecture theatres, libraries, student union etc. to evaluate study and access issues
Personalised tour of halls of residence, to evaluate what adaptations and equipment is required.
From the information gained, you will work with your Askjules Advocate to establish your final choice of two universities.
The Stage 3 plan is reviewed at a progress meeting and a Stage 4 plan is produced. Advice, feedback and tactical input will be provided throughout your campaign.
The final stage of the programme starts once you have you’re A’ level results. This is when things move quickly. It is vital that by this stage you are sure that your particular needs can be met by both of your university choices. Your Askjules Advocate will liaise closely with key contacts at your chosen university to ensure that when you start Fresher’s week everything is in place for you.
Whilst at university you are likely to need specialist equipment, yours Askjules Advocate will advise you as to what is available from the Disabled Students Allowance. We will work with you, your Connexions advisor, University Course contact, University Student Support, Disabled Student Allowance assessor and third party suppliers to ensure you get the products and services you require. Your Askjules Advocate can assist you with applications for disabled students allowances, benefits, grants and bursaries.
